Chu2 - All about Teluk Intan Local Food

Leaning Tower, Teluk Intan Perak

Been busy lately, all my blog post filing up getting thicker and thicker everyday. I still process compiling CNY post. Second day mostly at home, did not go anywhere because helping parents on CNY prayers. This time I want to share about local hometown food which I cannot miss it, once a year sure wallop nice food.

Became Plaza with tourist attractions.

Let me have brief introduce again. I'm from small town Teluk Intan Perak. One of the town attractions is a Leaning Tower [Menara Condong] erected in 1885 by a Chinese builder, Mr. Leong Choon Cheong. It started to tilt four years after its construction finished due to an underground stream. The tower was originally used as a water tower supplying the area of the town. It had a clock at the top, which still rings every 15 minutes. The tower also served as a beacon to guide ships into Teluk Intan Port. Currently it is a local tourist attraction, and no longer stores water. The area around the tower was paved with bricks and became a plaza. The main street at the centre of Teluk Intan, Jalan Ah Cheong, is named after Leong Choon Cheong to commemorate his contribution.

Chee Cheong Fun RM4.20

One of the famous delicacy in Teluk Intan is the 'Chee Cheong Fun', a variation of Kueh Teow containing turnip, whereas the Hong Kong Chee Cheong Fun has prawns wrapped inside. Every year getting expensive up to year 2012 eating during CNY per packet RM4.20. Damn cutting throat for local people where else for KL people still consider cheap less than RM5 per packet. Normal days was RM3.80 per packet. I still perfer Sam Siu Yeh 'Chee Cheong Fun' because more filling and more crunchy with dried prawns. A lot people asking me "eh how come don't have gravy for this 'Chee Cheong Fun'? If would to compare with KL 'Chee Cheong Fun' is totally different. Specially here is must eat with Soy Sauce [Kicap] green assorted dried chilies. 1 word "Delicous!!" Dare me, I can eat up to 2 or 3 packets... xD

Ah Wah Mee Rebus RM4.00

Next is Ah Wah Mee Rebus. This shop is selling simply Chinese Style Mee Rebus. Mee Rebus here is very nice and here is a bit a like like Indian mee except the sauce is thicker. They served with crispy types of prawns crackers. The prawns crackers are mix with flour, other ingredient and lastly deep fried. The taste of it is simply amazing. not forgetting must squeeze some Limau Kasturi [Kat Chai] into the sauce and mixed around before eating.  Besides the Mee Rebus, they also have other specialties like the curry mee. The shop location is at Jalan Sungai Nibong Teluk Intan. RM4.00 per bowl.

Ban Cheng kuih [Apam Balik] RM1 per piece

Kacang tumbuk + sweet corns

Yummy =P

Had this Ban Cheng kuih [Apam Balik]. Made with Corn Flour mixed pandan flavor add on with other ingredients, bake in small wok mold. just like waffer style, let it bake till turning golden color, take out garnish with fine tiny kacang tumbuk, baked corns. You need to fold it into half so that ingredients inside won't fall out. Just eat like that crunchy with first bite sweetness of pancake inside. RM1 per piece since price keep on increasing during CNY. Used to have this for breakfast during school times. =D

Angelia Shandy Beer

Lastly not forgetting my little Angelia Shandy Beer. I love to drink this if compare to Jolly Shandy or other brands. Refreshing while having this with dried "Yok Kun" [Rou Kan]. Damn nice to around with little bit of beer. Love my home hometown food.. Cheers everyone, Gong Xi Fa Cai!! xD
